Job Description

Engine Calibration Engineer – Powertrain Job Summary We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Engine Calibration Engineer to join our Powertrain Engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on expertise in engine calibration and powertrain development, with a deep understanding of calibration methodologies for gasoline, CNG, or flex-fuel engines. This role requires practical experience in emissions optimization, drivability enhancement, and calibration development across various engine operating conditions. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and refining engine control strategies to achieve optimal performance, fuel efficiency, emissions compliance, and overall vehicle drivability. Experience in engine testing, calibration tools, and diagnostic systems is essential. Key Responsibilities Perform engine and powertrain calibration activities for a wide range of operating conditions, ensuring optimal engine performance and vehicle drivability. Develop, validate, and optimize calibration parameters related to engine startability, idle stability, transient response, and overall engine behavior. Conduct emissions testing, analysis, and calibration tuning to meet regulatory standards while maintaining performance and fuel economy targets. Develop and refine calibrations for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), and fuel injection systems to improve efficiency, combustion quality, and emissions performance. Utilize ETAS INCA and other calibration tools for data acquisition, ECU monitoring, measurement analysis, and parameter optimization. Support On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-I / OBD-IIB) calibration activities, including fault detection strategies, diagnostic thresholds, and compliance requirements. Analyze engine and vehicle test data to identify performance gaps and implement effective calibration solutions. Collaborate closely with testing, controls, software, and powertrain development teams to ensure seamless calibration integration and program success. Participate in engine test bench and vehicle-level testing activities to validate calibration strategies and support issue resolution. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong hands-on experience in Engine Calibration, with a clear understanding of the distinction between calibration and validation activities. Proven experience calibrating Gasoline, CNG, or Flex-Fuel engine applications. Solid knowledge of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), fuel injection systems, and engine control strategies. Practical experience in powertrain calibration, engine testing, and vehicle development programs. Demonstrated expertise in emissions testing, emissions analysis, and calibration tuning for regulatory compliance. Experience in start, idle, and transient calibration development and optimization. Proficiency in ETAS INCA for calibration, measurement, and data analysis activities. Experience with OBD calibration, diagnostics development, and fault management systems (OBD-I or OBD-IIB). Preferred Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex test data and derive actionable calibration improvements. Comprehensive understanding of engine control algorithms, ECU functionality, and calibration methodologies. Experience working in engine dynamometer, powertrain test bench, or vehicle testing environments. Familiarity with calibration development processes, emissions regulations, and automotive validation standards. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
